GLINT building opens new apartment store

The award-winning property shows what’s in store for future residents

Berlin, 13 October 2017 – The co-investors v B Housing and COPRO are now offering visitors a taste of what’s to come for the historical building ensemble called GLINT, located in Glinkastraße and on the corner of Taubenstraße in Berlin’s Mitte district. The newly opened apartment store, which is intended to evoke the site’s previous history as a retail destination, provides a first look at residential interiors and will be used for events and sales purposes.

Superior living quarters right in the heart of Berlin

As a recipient of the gold pre-certification at the EXPO REAL (4 to 6 October 2017), the property will be painstakingly renovated and updated for contemporary use by the architects at Bothmer Architekten and the real estate developer COPRO. Project financing has been provided by the bank Berliner Sparkasse. In addition to 72 condominiums measuring between 25 and 330 square metres, developers also plan to create an oasis in the courtyard and a fireplace lounge as common areas intended to foster community. The vision is rounded out by an innovative mobility concept that reserves spots for e-bikes and e-mobility parking spaces, while the holistic energy concept includes solar panels. Located close to Gendarmenmarkt directly between Tiergarten and the boulevard “Unter den Linden”, the property is intended to unite past and present. In line with this vision, a new building will be constructed in harmony with the site’s four original historical buildings.

“This residential property in the heart of the city is intended to show what an urban oasis can look like in the future”, explained Marc F. Kimmich, founder and managing director of COPRO. The apartment store on the ground floor provides visitors with a glimpse of the property’s true potential. The store is divided into public areas and a quiet area for discussions, which – with its very own fireplace – already points to the area’s future use as the fireplace lounge.

An historic property with enormous potential

“Our basic premise was to forge a connection between the individual historical buildings to create a harmonious ensemble. The design is anchored by a central courtyard, which is accessible from all of the buildings”, explained architect Christopher von Bothmer, who together with his wife Anastasia von Bothmer is transforming the property into the present day. As with other COPRO projects, the guiding principle behind GLINT involves a striking attention to detail. From the cast ironwork on the entryway and gates to the original tiles and ceiling ornamentation:

The property boasts numerous architectural details and represents a whole new kind of residential living in the heart of an urban environment, especially through combining the old with the new, and timeless design with a superior setting.
