B-Part Sports is now open: B-Part Am Gleisdreieck’s welcomes its new innovative outdoor training park

Berlin, 23 January 2020 – Since its opening in March 2019, B-Part Am Gleisdreieck in the middle of the park has provided an exciting venue for people wanting to discuss and develop solutions for the future of work, new mobility, and urban communities, all under a single roof. As a laboratory dedicated to the development of the urban quarters of tomorrow, B-Part is already part of what Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck is intended to become: a cross-generational and lively space for dialogue. The opening of B-Part Sports marks an additional step on the journey to making this vision a reality. The outdoor training park is open to the public and was officially inaugurated by the head of sport for Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Michaela Schulte, gymnast Philipp Boy, and Marc F. Kimmich – CEO of COPRO and the founder of B-Part Am Gleisdreieck. The location will offer numerous opportunities to engage in fitness training, fun sporting activities, and physical exercise. Philipp Boy, sports ambassador of Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck, co-developed the sports park and presented the facility at the official opening.

Holistic concept for healthy minds and bodies

“Exercise for everyone” is the idea behind it – and combined with a diverse fitness park right within the green park itself, it is sustainable and intercultural quite literally by nature. The 300 sqm B-Part Sports area forms a symbiotic connection between working and working out. From a fitness course for beginners and pros alike, to workout spaces, gymnastics equipment, and step boxing, Philipp Boy has developed an inspiring programme for body and mind, a holistic concept for locals, all Berliners, and anyone interested in checking it out.

Sport courses with Philipp Boy

“B-Part Sports will significantly expand the range of sports on offer here at Gleisdreieck Park,” says former Olympian Philipp Boy. “I will personally be part of that, offering a wide range of courses for which I’ve devised a gymnastics-based programme. I’m delighted to be working with B-Part Am Gleisdreieck here in the heart of Berlin, enabling people to lead more active lives and being part of the community in and around this park for the benefit of the people in this city. I want to connect people through sport and promote a feeling of togetherness. That’s why it was important for me to offer different courses for all ages and fitness levels.

City quarter of the future

At around 26-hectares, Gleisdreieck Park is one of a new breed of city parks that artfully combines untamed wildlife with landscaped areas, along with relaxing quiet spots and flexible open spaces. “Sports offerings like these can only be good for this district. There’s an enormous need for modern sports facilities for everyone,” says Michaela Schulte, head of sport for Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg

B-Part Am Gleisdreieck: an open invitation

B-Part Sports is an integral part of the overall B-Part Am Gleisdreieck concept. This temporary structure, an innovative ‘pioneer’ project designed to open up the space before later development, is approximately 1,000 sqm in size. It includes a public café, numerous coworking spaces, as well as multi-use spaces for art exhibitions and events. As well as attractive facilities, B-Part also offers another interesting concept: the Urban Ideation Lab. The Lab offers six free-of-charge curated workspaces linked to scholarships awarded for research into pioneering ideas and solutions to create urban districts people enjoy living in. B-Part Sports is another invitation to everyone to get involved and work with others to shape the future: sport as a means to connect and build communities. Similar to B-Part Am Gleisdreieck, B-Part Sports has been built using a modular construction system and can quickly and easily be redesigned or relocated as required.

An urban neighbourhood with a social conscience

“B-Part is designed to demonstrate our vision of a resource-saving, forward-looking, open, and diverse urban district,” Marc F. Kimmich explains. “Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck will also harmoniously unite all aspects of how we will live and work in the future. The combination of art and cultural projects, subsidised spaces for local manufacturers, intergenerational social offerings, modern mobility solutions, and flexible work environments together create an innovative and intercultural meeting place. Now B-Part Am Gleisdreieck is being expanded to include the new and versatile B-Part Sports, which is the perfect final touch to our integrated concept of the city quarter of tomorrow. We are very pleased that we were able to attract Phillip Boy to be our sports ambassador. His expertise and varied range of courses will play a significant part in making this spot a welcoming meeting place for urban communities.”

Philipp Boy will be offering two free training sessions for anyone curious about the concept on Saturday, 25 January 2020. The courses will run from 1 pm to 2 pm for beginners and from 3 pm to 4 pm for more advanced athletes. B-Part Sports will be open to the public free of charge from 1 February 2020. Guided courses with instructors including Philipp Boy can be booked via www.bpart.berlin.
